Welcome to my blog!
I returned to the field of HR technology almost two years ago after a four year absence — lots of changes and just as many things stayed the same. During that time I’ve been working hard to come up to speed on the issues facing HR professionals as it relates to the effective use of technology, and feel like I’m finally caught up with what’s going on well enough to support a personal point of view. And what better way to articulate my view of the world than with a blog!
The process of naming the blog was challenging. I have to give Jason Corsello kudos for his pithy name (The Human Capitalist), and so I challenged myself to come up with something that was worthy. I got stuck on the term ‘perceptive’ and figured that if I couldn’t come up with a regular comment or two on our industry that would be perceived that way, I had no business being here. So we’ll see if I can hold myself to such a standard. Perceptive HR Technology it is.
My hope is to comment about issues organizations are facing specifically as they evaluate and implement technology for their talent management and HRMS needs. And in the spirit of full disclosure — I work for a software company that sells all of these products (Lawson)! So I promise that my point of view will be genuine, but I will be spending most of my professional time trying to make that perspective come alive in the HCM products we sell at Lawson. Bias acknowledged.
It’s a big week in our industry — time for the HR Technology Conference (aka HR Tech). On it’s own, it’s the biggest trade show of the year. But on top of that, it’s a time when vendors are making big new product announcements (maybe we’ll even make one!) and lots of our current and future customers are out there looking to buy our stuff. I’ll be there, talking to old friends, meeting past and future customers and networking a bit. I will also be preparing like a maniac for a live demo ‘bake-off’ on Thursday afternoon with Oracle and Workday. I haven’t been on the big stage since 2000 — so I’m looking forward to the opportunity to show the market what we’ve been up to for the past couple of years. Let me know what you think of it!
